Primary Curriculum

As a school, we are committed to continuously improving teaching and learning.

Year 1 – Year 6

Children in Years 1 – 6 will study:

·     English

·     Mathematics

·     Science

·     STEM

·     Thematic Literacy (which encompasses Literacy, History, Geography,

     Design and Technology, Environmental Studies, and Global Citizenship)

·     Arts

·     ICT

·     Music

·     Qatari History

·     PSHE

·     Social Studies


The following subjects are timetabled for each class but are taught by specialist teachers:

·     Arabic A

·     Islamic Studies

·     Music (FS1, F2 and Non-Arabic A learners)

·     French (Y5/6 Non-Arabic A Learners)

·     DT & IT (Years 1-6 alternating per half term for Non-Arabic A Learners)

·     Physical Education

·     Swimming (from Y3)

·     Library skills


Foundation Stage

The UK Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum includes the following areas of learning,

which are covered through continuous provision and adult-led learning:


CL (Communication and Language)          – UW (Understanding the World)

   PD (Physical Development)                       – EAD (Expressive Art and Design)

   Literacy                                                      – Mathematics

   PSED (Personal, Social and Emotional Development)


More detailed curriculum information is shared at regular points throughout the year, including

key assessment objectives, theme overviews and weekly objectives. Assessment of the curriculum occurs on an ongoing, continuous cycle throughout the year – there are rarely any formal exam-style assessments for Primary students other than at the end of Year 6.
