English Department

English is an integral subject to the learning and development of students at Qatar International School. Not only does it help students to develop their analysis, inference and written skills – vital for all subjects that they take – it also helps them to develop an understanding of the world and provides them with new and interesting perspectives around social and cultural ideals.
In Key Stage 3, our students will focus on developing their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. These will be explored through the creative and engaging curriculum we offer to students. Students in KS3 will be exposed to a range of different text types and genres to ensure they develop the necessary skills required for success in KS4 and KS5.
In Key Stage 4, students will be working towards their IGCSE, preparing and producing coursework in year 10, then developing their knowledge and skills for their exams in year 11. We offer a broad curriculum in both Language and Literature, as well as English as a Second Language, and also provide a Speaking and Listening qualification.
Key Stage 5 offers students the opportunity to study both English Language and English Literature, where students will develop from their IGCSE skills and be introduced to a wide range of terminology, theorists and critical analysis based on a range of different text types and genres.
The English Department has consistently achieved some of the best results in the school and this is due to the excellent ethos the department has: the high expectations we have in our learning environments and our ability to work collaboratively to engage, challenge and support all learners. The staff has a range of experience which helps to provide diverse learning experiences for our students.
