Qatar International School is excited to deliver BTEC International Qualifications to our Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 students. At Key Stage 4 we currently offer Level 2 Qualification in Information Technology and at Key Stage 5 we offer Level 2 and 3 Qualifications in IT. For both Level 2 and Level 3 courses there are no external examinations and assessment is 100% coursework based through regular time-sensitive assignments which are set throughout the academic year.

BTEC Level 2 International Certificate: Information Technology

For this qualification there is one mandatory unit which is 60 guided learning hours and three optional units which are 60 guided learning hours each, units are assessed using a Pearson Set Assignment and a Pearson Assignment Brief. This qualification is equivalent in size to two International GCSEs.

Unit 1: Using IT to Support Information and Communication in Organisations

The aim of this unit is to enable learners to develop an understanding of the ways in which information technology can provide value to organisations, and engage with stakeholders. The learners will look at a business and develop an information campaign using data to inform the decisions they make.

Unit 2: Data and Spreadsheet Modelling

Learners will investigate the characteristics of data and information and how information can help organisations in decision making. They will use data manipulation methods to create a dashboard to present and draw conclusions from information.

The optional units students will study are:

Unit 6: Introduction to Digital Graphics and Animation 

Learners will design and create digital graphics and animation in response to a client brief. The students will create their digital graphics which will consist of: a logo, navigation bar and advertising banner using Adobe Animate from designs that they develop. They will optimise their graphics making them suitable for use on the web.

Unit 7: Introduction to Website Development

Learners investigate the key features of website development to design, develop and test a website. The students will review existing websites to aid them in designing their own website for Baladna. They will design a new website for the business and develop it with the use of Adobe Dreamweaver including different interactive features such as navigation bars, roll over images, videos and image hotspots. The websites will be tested by the students for accessibility and functionality.

BTEC International Level 3 Certificate: Information Technology   

For this qualification there is one mandatory unit which is 120 guided learning hours and one optional unit which is 60 guided learning hours, both units are assessed using a Pearson Set Assignment and a Pearson Assignment Brief. This qualification is equivalent in size to 0.5 of an International A Level and both units must be completed.

Unit 1: Information Technology Systems (Pearson Set Assignment)

The aim of this unit is to help you explore the relationships between the hardware and software that form an IT system. You will look at the way that systems work individually and together, as well as the relationship between the user and the system. You will examine issues related to the use of IT systems and the impact that they have on organisations and their stakeholders. You will explore how IT systems enable organisations to access data, information and users locally and globally.

Unit 17: Digital Animation and Effects

The aim of this unit is for you to investigate the purpose, local legal requirements and technical characteristics, for example techniques and principles, of different digital animation and effects products. You will explore how graphics are created and the impact of the technologies used on the digital animation and effects products. You will design and develop a digital animation and effects product for an audience and purpose. To do this, you will use specialist software and hardware to develop the digital product that could be included in a larger media product, such as a website or a computer game.
